Carus Verlag!

This week, with the help of American musicologist Grete Konradt, Helmuth and I finished our third draft of the the Messiah book and sent it to the publishing company of Carus Verlag.  Wednesday afternoon, Rillings left for the Erzgebirge (The Ore Mountains), which are located close to the border of Germany and the Czech Republic in Saxony.  I went to Stuttgart to hear the Bachakademie's concert of Handel Salomon with the Gaechinger Kantorei and Freiburg Baroque Orchestra under HC Rademann -- a wonderful concert of 3 plus hours in length!  I spent Thursday at the Bachakademie looking through their library and working on programming for the 2015 JSB Ensemble.  Thursday evening was spent with close friend John van Buren over a lovely dinner and great conversation.  Friday morning, I met Greta Konradt at the Stuttgart train station and together, we made the trip out to Carus to discuss next steps for the book project.  In the coming weeks, we will focus on assembling the musical examples, final editing, typsetting/formatting the manuscript, and assembling PR materials to announce/promote the book.

Carus is a German publishing company founded in 1972 by choral conductor Guenter Graulich and his wife.  The company has become a leading publisher of sacred choral music worldwide with wonderful, critical editions of works by Bach, Brahms, Haydn, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Rheinberger, Schubert, and Schuetz to name only a few.  The company is the winner of many prizes and also produces and distributes secular vocal music, instrumental music, CDs, and books.  Below is a brief tour of the company from my Friday visit.  Enjoy!
