Erfurt

Following our wonderful concert in Eisenach, we returned to Weimar and had Saturday morning and afternoon free.  I connected with friends Gerhardt and Sybille and we drove to the neighboring city of Erfurt, the capital of Thuringia.  This is a beautiful University town with a long history dating back to the Middle Ages and before!  The University was founded in 1392 and in 1501, Martin Luther was a student there and later lived in the Augustine Monastery.  In Erfurt, we met up with the executive director of the Weimar Festival, Christoph Drescher and his extended family.  His father took us on a lovely walking tour of the city beginning with the beautiful Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary through the Cathedral Square and the old city and ending with the Krämerbrücke (Merchants' Bridge). I hope you enjoy this short tour of the city as much as I did!
