Today was very special! The guide who led the choir in a Bach Tour of the city invited me for a personal tour of Weimar this afternoon. Her husband served as principal bassoonist of the Weimar Orchestra for almost 40 years and we made a very nice connection with one another. Today we toured other parts of Weimar, as documented below in various pictures. I cannot begin to recount all of the history of this amazing city and the many scholars and artists who lived or visited here. I feel truly fortunate to have been part of the festival that brought us to Weimar.
1. The Statue of Goethe and Schiller
2. The City Park with a view of Goethe's Garden House
3. The statue of Shakespeare in the City Park.
4. A view of the city from the park.
5. Two pictures from Liszt's home -- his dining room and portrait above the small piano.
6. The mask of Liszt as a young man and his death mask.
7. The chapel in the historic graveyard.
8. The coffins of Goethe and Schiller.
9. The Biblical verses above the door of the Chapel - 'Those that sow with tears...'
10. The Russian Chapel in the historic graveyard.
11. Coffee and Plum Cake in the Herder Garde
